The following guide was created by Eruruw on June 2011

So I suppose I'll start this thread with a question: What is Moscovia?

Moscovia is a dungeon. Well, technically it's a city, but it has a dungeon!

And I suppose I'll pose another question: Why should you care about Moscovia?

VAST AND INCREDIBLE RICHES BEYOND YOUR WILDEST DREAMS!~ *insert fireworks*

Alright, perhaps that's not exactly true, but it does have the potential for big profit with very little in the way of overhead. That is to say, you won't have to work up a whole 100 million for Niff gears to make decent money. So, the first thing you need to know about Moscovia is how to get there.

To get to the city you must talk to a certain NPC in Alberta and pay to be taken there. The location of the NPC is detailed in the image below.

Missing image link removed.

Once you get there you'll have to do a a quest in order to get access to Moscovia dungeon. This guide is accurate for our server - http://irowiki.org/wiki/Finding_The_Moving_Island_Quest. It's a fairly simple quest and shouldn't pose you any trouble.

Alternatively, you can just ask someone for a warp to Moscovia Dungeon and memo it for yourself. This is the area where you should memo to get to the important parts of the dungeon the fastest.

Once you go into the portal above where my character is standing you'll be on a map that I find to be quite apt for training low/mid level characters. I'm going to talk briefly about this map, so if you're here to learn about the part of Moscovia with Mavkas, you can skip ahead.

-> This map is filled with primarily two kinds of monsters, Wood Goblins and Les. This map is particularly good for low level characters because neither of these types of monsters are aggressive. The map also does have some Mantises, but they aren't really much to worry about.

----------Mosc Dun 01----------

Les are the weaker of the two monsters, and are fairly slow moving. However, they are actually quite dangerous because they can inflect the bleeding status, which does high damage to low level characters. Avoid confronting them at all unless you can kill them before they have a chance to react.

Wood Goblins, on the other hand, are INCREDIBLY SLOW. They also give just under the amount of experience that a Zombie prisoner gives, yet are about a hundred times easier to kill if you know what you're doing.

So, the first thing I'm going to do is introduce a very, very handy little item that will probably get a lot of use from Melee classes that go to Moscovia. That is... the Weeder Knife! This item is listed in the Ad shop for a mere 1 AD, yet can potentially be the key to making millions (wooo~! exciting!).

The Weeder Knife can be used by most classes and has a level requirement of 36.

It's effects as described by RMS are as follows.

Spoiler for Hiden:

A blade created to cut down stubborn weeds.Add a 15% resistance against Plant monster.Increases damage inflicted on Plant monster by 15%.Pierces Defense of Plant monster.

So, as you can see, it's perfectly suited for taking out those pesky plant monsters that inhabit Moscovia. Wood Goblins, Les, and Mavkas (which I will talk about later) are plant race. A Weeder knife, in conjunction with a Fire Endow can essentially turn any character into a Wood Goblin killing machine.

Furthermore, Wood Goblins can be killed incredibly easily with a party of two. Wood Goblins are persistent little buggers, so if one player attacks them, they will continue to follow that character until they are no longer able to do so. When combined with their incredibly slow walk speed, you can kill Wood Goblins without taking a single point of damage if you have two players. It's not even necessary that one play be able to tank.

Essentially, what one must do is have one player attack a Wood Goblin and immediately move away. As soon as they move, a second play should start attacking the Wood Goblin. As long as te second player has a decent attack speed, the Wood Goblin should continue chasing after the first player, yet be unable to move. In this manner, it can be attacked until it is dead.

Wood Goblins don't have any real interesting drops, except for something called an Iron Wrist. This is a really nice item for newer Swordsman or Merchant players, as it increase Bash and Mammonite damage by 6%, and has a defense of 1.

Wood Goblins will continue to be a good source of experience until a player reaches about level 70, at which point they begin to taper off in usefulness. However, at about that point, most players should be ready to tackle the second portion of Moscovia, provided they have the right preparation (there is in fact ANOTHER part of Moscovia Dungeon, but I don't feel that it's worth going over, and will be leaving it out of this guide).

So, this is where the real money making begins, and where this guide really picks up. This portion of Moscovia is also good for leveling all the way up to 99 (albeit a little slowly for trans characters)!

There are three types of monsters that inhabit this section of Mosc, they are the Baba Yaga, the Uzhas, and the Mavka. The first two monsters may be wort killing for some, and do provide an adequate method for farming cakes, but I will not be covering any methods for killing them in this guide because I don't personally feel that it is an adequate use of you time!

So, that being said, there are a few things I need to mention about them. Both Baba Yagas and Uzhas are WATER monsters, therefore if you endow with fire in order to kill Mavkas faster, you will do minimum damage to them, and they will become even less beneficial to kill. Secondly, they can both cast LEVEL 10 WATER BALL. This, for lower level characters and players without a Kaho or Sleips, is INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. It has the potential to kill players who are not prepared easily. That being said, their cast time for the skill is rather long, and can be interrupted safely. Secondly, these monsters outnumber Mavkas by a large margin, and you are very likely to be mobbed by them.

Essentially, you would like to be able to completely avoid both of these monsters, but that isn't always possible, so if you do find yourself being mobbed by a considerable amount of them, just kiss your pride goodbye and teleport out of there. You're better off missing a Mavka than you are ending up dead because you got mobbed.

So, on the the important part! Mavkas!

This is what they look like (information courtesy of RateMyServer.Net).

Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination

Mavkas are floating, jingling, green fairy-looking monsters that make their home singing happily in Moscovia Dungeon. And you want to kill them, you monster.

Why?

Because they drop the absolute best medley of pure-zeny making items in RO.

Crystal Mirrors at a whopping 45% sell for 9300 zeny when OC'd.

Witherless Roses drop at a fairly generous rate of 9% and OC for... 34,100 zeny. Yep, you heard me correctly.

Blue Herbs drop at 90%, and can be turned into 1550 pure Zeny per herb, or vended to other players for potentially more. They can also be brewed directly into Blue Potions for 3100 zeny per herb, but I would not recommend this.

How to turn blue Herbs in Blue Potions via NPC detailed below.

Spoiler for Hiden:

In the Merchants Guild in Alberta (lower left building as far as you can go) this is an NPC a room below the starting warp that will turn 2 Blue Herbs and an Empty Bottle into a Blue Potion. That potion can then be sold to an NPC for 3100 zeny when OC'd.

So, now that I've told you how lucrative killing these, poor, defenseless (yeah right), happy, peaceful creatures is... I'm sure you'd like to know how to do it! Well, I'll tell you.

The first question that might be going through your head is "Can I kill Mavkas?" Well, if you have two hands, a character around level 70 or above, and a lot of determination, the answer is YES. Pretty much any character can do well on this map, and I've leveled characters as obscure as Combo Monk and Super Novice on this map! Even Soul Linker can do great.

That being said, there is definitely a certain level of effectiveness that some classes have over others, so I'll make a short list of classes I think do really well here.

~~~CLASSES~~~
Top - Characters that can naturally use the skill Steal, such as: Rogue, Sin, and Super Novice.
Slightly Less Top - Classes that can kill Mavkas incredibly fast, but have to give up an accessory slot to use Steal: Hunter, Champ, LK.
Even Less Top - Classes that can kill Mavkas slightly less quickly, and still can't naturally use Steal: Paladin, Sage (Linked Autobolt build).
For the most part, any class can do well in Mosc, but there are a few that I would NOT recommend using unless you want it to be a pain in the butt. Those would be, Wizard, Priest, Gunslinger (can be Viable but needs a LOT of good gear), Bio (too expensive), and Whitesmith.
Regardless, once you pick a class there are a few things you should know.
~~~GUIDELINES~~~

1. For the most part, Flee builds will outperform any other kind of build for most classes. You need 227 flee to dodge Mavkas 95% of the time, but you can survive with about 220 if you need to. I wouldn't recommend any lower.

2. Teleport is your friend, walking is not. If you want to move, you should probably teleport. Unless you know another Mavka is nearby, don't waste any time walking.

3. Firepower is important! This isn't like mobbing where you can take your time killing, since you're killing Mavkas one by one, you have to do it as quickly as possible!

4. Steal is a very nice thing to have. If your class does not naturally have steal, consider getting a Joker Clip, even if its success rate will be quite a bit lower.

5. Don't go after a Mavka if it's surrounded by a gigantic mob of other monsters, the time you waste trudging through all the Uzhas will hurt your productivity.

So, keeping these things in mind, we'll move on to the meat.

I'll start off with what you would want to have in the absolute BEST case scenario. This will obviously vary based on class, but I will be as general as possible. My gears will also correspond to FLEE builds, as they are the most effective in Moscovia.

Note: It is also possible to use Vit instead of Flee, as long as you have some method for getting endure, however it would require a lot more healing and is not really worth it in my opinion.

~~~GEAR~~~
Spoiler for Hiden:
Top: Kaho / Valk Helm (not as good in most cases).
Mid: Bloody Knight / Stormy Knight depending on whether or not you need the extra flee.
Lower: Ganster Scarf, extra damage never hurts.
Armor: Alicel (+10 flee) or Porcellio (+25 attack) carded armor for attack based classes, Agav for magic, and Byorgue for Rogue or Stalker.
Shield: Tirfing, Toad, whatever works, really. I'm trying to get a Tatacho card if it exists, that would be an extra 5% damage against Mavkas.
Garment: Skin of Ventus carded with Kavach Icarus / Whisper for flee or a Magmaring card (10% extra damage on Earth monsters) for extra damage.
Shoes: Mystel Sleips, or Mystel whatever.
Accessories: 1 Teleport accessory, the other will depend on class. For Str based characters, Meg. For any others, a Celeb, Bris, Spirited Sakura (if you don't have Mystel Sleips and need the walk speed).
Obviously I have not included weapons because those are heavily dependent on class, I'll go into weapon specifics when I get to class based strategies.
Now I'll move on to more budget-based gears, for lower level players.
~~~BUDGET GEAR~~~

Spoiler for Hiden:

Top: Power of Thor! Located in the AD shop for only 5 ADs, it gives +1 to all stats, 5 flee, is slotted, and has a whopping 6 def. If you slot it with a Bloody Knight or a Stormy Knight card this thing can substitute for a Kaho for a long time!

Mid: Not much you can do here, Nightmare on a Blinker will give you a little bit of extra flee.

Lower: Romantic Leaf/Flower

Armor: Same as top rated gear, Porcellio and Alicel are still king.

Shield: Thara Frog is good for the Uxhas and Baba Yagas.

Garment: SoV is still great, and pretty affordable for how useful it is. Otherwise a good garment to use is a slotted Ancient Cape, which can be gotten from the AD Shop for 1 AD.This can be carded with Whisper, Hygeun, or Orc Baby. Dragon Tail card is good for Hunters.

Shoes: Mystel whatever is best, you can also use Shackles if you have a Bloodied Shackle Ball.

Accesories: Spirited Sakura and a Teleport accessory (preferably a Sakura's Promise).

~~~Generic Useful Cards and Weapons~~~ Spoiler for Hiden:
Cards: Scorpion and Kaho are 20% more damage on Plant and Earth monsters respectively, and when combined can essentially double your attack power on a Mavka. Generally you would like to use 4 slotted weapons carded with two each of these, as it will give you the most damage (except in cases where an SQI would be better).
Weapons: Weeder Knife and Caesar's Sword are both weapons geared towards killing Plant monsters. Sucsamed is a dagger that increases damage on Earth monsters. Burning Bow is a bow that increases damage done when using Fire Arrows (which you should be).
While it is a little harder on a low end character, once you get those flee gears things become a whole lot easier! For newer players I would suggest classes that are already flee based, such as Sin, Rogue and Hunter.
---------Individual Strategies and Weapons!--------
Here I'll just go over a bit how I've handled things myself, and how I imagine classes that I haven't used yet would do in Moscovia.
Hunter: Spoiler for Hiden:
Ah, this is the first class I started with as a newb to jRO. While I was an RO vet, I'd never done Mosc before, so it was definitely a learning experience. As far as weapons go I would recommend either a ScoprionScoprionKahoKaho carded Comp Bow, or a Kaho/Scorpion carded Burning Bow. Contrary to what most people will tell you, DPSing is a total waste of time and arrows. Use Double Strafe to dispatch Mavkas quickly from a range. Hunters have an advantage because they don't need to be close to the enemy to kill them, so avoiding Uzhas and Baba Yagas is a little easier. The basic build for a Hunter is to get enough flee to dodge everything, and pout the rest of your stats into dex! It doesn't get much easier than that.
This is the class I would recommend most to newbies because it hardly takes any preparation. Since you can buy fire arrows, there's no need for endows, and Burning Bows are abundant and very effective here! BsB is great for Hunter when you have a Spirited Sakura because their high dex results in a high minimum attack rating.
Assassin: Spoiler for Hiden:
Assassin is a very good class for Moscovia because they have a naturally high flee and can use Steal right out of the box! Good weapons would be some sort of Doppel weapon combined with a Weeder Knife, using a fire endow. If you don't have a Doppel weapon, you can either use two Weeder Knives, or a Sucsamed, which has high attack and bonus damage on Earth monsters. There isn't much to say in the way of strategy. You simply steal, and DPS until the Mavka is dead. Cloaking is great for getting through a mob of Uzhas/Yagas unnoticed.
An alternative build that requires a little more effort on your part can be beneficial to lower level Assassins that don't have a Doppel weapon. Using a ScoprionScorpionKahoKaho Spec. Jur, it's possible to 1HKO a Mavka with Sonic Blow provided you have both a Fire Endow and a Soul Link. It does require that you come back to the rock every now and then to re-link, but it's an incredibly fast method that can rival even Veterans.
Rogue: Spoiler for Hiden:
Essentially the same as a Sin, except you don't even have to steal manually! Wow! Just teleport and attack Mavkas on sight, use either a Doppel dagger of choice, or a Weeder Knife. Copy Raging Triple blow for extra damage potential! Alternatively you can use bows, but Rogues aren't as good with bows as hunters are, so you'd be better off making a Hunter if you want to use bows.
Sage: Spoiler for Hiden:
Sage is great for Mosc! However, it's important to have a Soul Linker handy, as Autobolt is not nearly as effective without a Link. Essentially you'd like to max your flee and your intelligence, and Autobolt Fire Bolt. Your weapon can either be a Doppel Dagger or a book of your choice. Mavkas actually drop a pretty good book for this role called the Principles of Magic. Imp Cards are good for your accessories, as they will increase your bolt damage by quite a bit. Don't bother statting any strength as you'll be using your bolts to kill the Mavkas, and they will proc even if you miss. Leave your linker right outside the rock and come back every 10 minutes or so to refresh your link. Even if you aren't linked, if you casted Autobolt while you were linked, you'll get the level 10 bolts.
Super Novice!:Spoiler for Hiden:
Super Novice is a little hard to explain how to develop. In all honesty it's a lot easier to start with a SN here if you're at least level 80 already. It also requires a couple of quirky gears as well.
This is my current setup for doing Mosc on my Super Novice. Missing image link removed.
And these are my skills (I also have Steal maxed but that's cut off).Missing image link removed.
Note that while an SoM is incredibly helpful, it is of course, not required. On the other hand, two Imp accessories are absolutely ESSENTIAL if you want to be 1HKO Mavkas with any reliability. A Kaho is also a necessity for this, so SN is not exactly the best class for a newbie trying to take on Mosc.
For a player without an SoM I would suggest you use a Double Drops Hypnotist Rod (the Super Novice's unique Rod weapon).
So essentially what one wants to do when setting up their SN is to achieve a good balance between the three required stats. Int, for killing power, Dex for cast, and agi for flee. Since SN has access to Owl Eyes, Improve Concentration AND Bless, they can achieve IC with astoundingly low stats (even lower if you have a VO, but I refuse to make one those for my SN considering it would require a load of bullshit to get)! They also have access to Improve Dodge, so they don't have a hard time getting the required flee, either.
Another requirement for this is getting the SN Bonus Stats, which you get by... Getting to Job level 70 without dying once. Well, since you probably haven't done that, you can also get it by being above Job level 70 and spamming Super Novice Link on yourself until an Angel pops up above your head, and then you'll receive +10 to all stats, until you die. Note that dying in PvP also resets this bonus, sadly. However this can be repeated indefinitely.
Once you have all of these things in place, you should be ready to try Mosc. I would suggest at first to live with having to cast two Firebolts on your Mavkas to kill them. You should focus on survivability. Alternatively, you can sacrifice some dex and have a cast bar, but be able to (sometimes) 1HKO them. Either way, once you reach level 99 (which won't take long at all for a Super Novice) you should be able to have the best of both worlds.
The method is fairly straightforward, just like any other class. Steal, Firebolt (twice if necessary) and teleport. You also have access to Heal naturally, so no healing items should be required. However, due to their low carrying capacity I would suggest you use a Kafra Clip.
Knight: Spoiler for Hiden:
I've only personally used an NT Knight in Mosc, but I know for a fact that LKs can be used there effectively as well.
My strategy involved using a fire endowed KKSS +10 Pike and Piercing Mavkas with a flee build. This is a slightly crude method, but it's just as effective as anything else, and Pierce happens to be a really cheap skill in terms of SP. Furthermore, Knights have a good HP pool even in a flee build, and have Increase HP Recovery, so they won't need as much healing. Knight is a perfectly good choice if you happen to like it.
LK, on the other hand, has Spiral Pierce. As far as I know, A Nib is required in order to 1HKO Mavkas, but you could potentially get a very good hit off on them using a Fire Endowed Kaho carded Hunting Spear. The build in this case would be maxed dex and either agi or Vit dpending on whether you want to use flee or tank. Str doesn't have a HUGE effect on spiral damage, but it does contribute some, so you can always try to increase your damage by adding Str. It's also important that an LK use a Moonlight (Joke) accessory if they want to keep up in terms of money making. With 99 dex they will be able to steal a little more often, even with only level 1 Steal.
~~~MVP Info~~~

Moscovia does have it's own MVP. He's not exactly a high level or difficult one, but he poses a challenge for classes without any ranged attacks, and I wouldn't suggest fighting him unless you know you can kill him quickly (since it will hurt your Mavka productivity).

Info (courtesy of RMS once again):

Spoiler for Hiden:

Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination

My top suggested class for killing him is Sniper. The basic strategy is simply to take out 3 of his 5 Mavka slaves and just whittle him down from a range using either DPS or DS. This can also be accomplished with pretty much any other class that has a ranged attack with decent power. SinX can use Soul Breaker, Super Novice can use Fire Bolt. Even NT Hunters can take him down for a decent chunk of EXP and some OK items.

If you have an questions feel free to ask them and I'll help you as best I can.
