This guide will be about scholars, and how to fuck up like me, or play pro like Menardi. Everything is his, and I'm doing the footwork.

How to: Play Professor like a professional!

Note:
If you play Scholar, you're probably going to be stuck on a very supportive role and not be in charge of anything huge unless you really know how to play. But once you understand the class, you'll have a very important role during WoE, unlike Champs, who are basically Pneuma/Asura slaves.

Profs are normally the #1 Target when defending a castle since they can basically ensure a cap if they make it to Emp with some breakers, and can make it a lot easier to get in with LPs, Fogs, Dispels and such.

Profs are also one of the toughest classes in the game to kill thanks to the high reduction.

All you need for WoE is two Doppelganger cards. The last slot depends on what you're going to be doing other than WoE..
I have a DDT Tome, which is just for fun to say I'm different, really. It adds a good deal of damage to melee when I go high-Str build, too.

Drake card is good for if you want to PvP, but using Waterball in WoE is a big No-No.

Drops card is always good, since the +1 Dex will let you put in a little more Str or Luk, but it's not a massive difference.

What makes the Scholar so deadly? I know they have debuffs and such, but what else? I saw a Scholar in PvP today and all he did was LandProtect, Wed, and Bolts. o-o;

Answer:

In WoE a Scholar doesn't use Int or any type of magic attack. They focus on support and debuffs.
Removing buffs with Dispel is something no other class can do and it's extremely useful. It makes Snipers look like shit and usually kills off High Wizards and such too, as well as Sinx and WS. Any class that relies on buffs really.

Web = Infinite Ankle Snare. You can keep people held down indefinitely. Thus Prof = Anti-Soloing machine.

LP is one of the biggest threats. It can be used both offensively and defensively. Removing the enemies Pneumas/Walls almost always gets quite a few of them killed when normally they would have been just fine. Works especially well with Snipers. LPing an enemies Emperium like I said basically ensures a cap if you have breakers there as well. It prevents Sanc and SW.
LP can also be used to counter other Profs LPs, Remove SW's so that your Guild can Pneuma, Remove other Profs LPs on your Guilds Emperium so that you can Sanc/Wall it again, and Prevent Storm Gust from hitting your Guildies (Though this isn't used much since GTB is everywhere.)

Stone Curse... How can you not like Stone Curse? It's great, and it's pretty obvious why.

Soul Burn isn't the best skill ever, but it can slow down classes quite a lot. Soul Burning and Dispelling a Champ right before they Asura = A Dead Champ, usually. Works wonders on Snipers too since they have to stop the SS Spam to GJ back up.

Health Convert = No need for Grape Juice. Nuff Said.

Wall of Fog is pretty obvious. It's like another Pneuma, but it works on ALL direct damage skills and not just ranged. Oh, and it can be put over Pneumas and Safety Walls to stack the effect, and it has a larger range than Pneuma does.

Profs can even go for an Int Build if you want to. It's not nearly as effective as a fullsupport Build, but if you're doing something like Holding Econ and you never have to leave your castle, it can be quite good. Heaven's Drive hurts

Oh, Profs shouldn't be trying to kill people.

Profs make it much easier for OTHERS to kill people. You're a support class, but just a very, very important support class.

Profs can PvM extremely well if they have Link/Autocast. It's hax.

Also, the Doppelgangers are for skill delay. Haven't you noticed that in eAthena, skills have massive delays according to attack speed? It applies to Profs too, and it slows us down immensely if we don't have around 190 Aspd. I run 189 with my Valk, and that's just fine.

Cons? Well, you won't be doing any damage in WoE unless you sacrifice tanking for some Int, and still you'd be better off focusing on support unless you are an all out Int-Built Prof, which aren't as useful as full support Profs unless you're holding Econ.
You don't have the HP of an LK or Paladin, so burst damage can be a pain in the ass. But that's where your high reduction comes in.
It can be a pain to get all the gear you need to be perfect. Brisingamen are almost required to be "Unkillable", but you can certainly get by with Rosaries or Celeb Rings. However, without Brisingamen you can't run the "Valk Prof" build, which adds a lot to your tankability.

However for those who've known me a while, I never ran Valk until about a couple months ago. I did great with two Celeb Rings and a Kaho. Just as well as plenty of "Valk Profs". So I'm sure others can too.

And by the way, Prof isn't a very expensive class either. I mainly use Mastelas for healing, and it's surprisingly easy with those. I rarely ever have to rely solely on cakes and only ever bring more than 100 cakes with me on Saturdays when numbers are higher. Sinx use waaaaay more Cakes than Profs do.

Stats?

Stats are all just personal preference really. Just get lots of Vit, IC, a little Str for weight, and the rest into Luk.

Maximum Gears for being a tank?

run Valk because

1. Extra HP
2. Extra Demihuman Reduction.
3. Extra Agi for Aspd.

4. Extra Luk.

LUK is more useful than Str for a WoE Professor for a couple reasons.

1. It gives Crit, and if you ever want to poke the Emp or something, you need that.

2. It gives status resistance. Something like 0.1% resistance to all status effects per point of Luk. 100 Total Luk = 10% Resistance to all Status Effects.
3. One lesser known factor of Luk is the fact that it gives Crit Resistance as well. 0.1% Per point of Luk. So 100 Total Luk = 10% Less chance your opponent will land a Crit on you. It's extremely helpful against Sharpshooting Snipers.

I put the Guild ahead of myself in terms of Defense. I will NEVER LP Myself to save myself, when It might kill my whole Guild in the process. I know that some Profs do do things like that because they think they're leet, or whatever, but honestly, if NOBODY makes it to the Emp but you, you just failed big-fucking-time.
So if I'm separated from the group, WoF or LP or SW, depending on what's hitting me.

If I'm WITH the group, I put them ahead of me and I keep down exactly what we need, which is usually WoF and no Safety Walls. Even if I'm getting smacked by an EDP Sinx or Asura'd all over the place, or hit with Storm Gusts, or Spider Webbed down forever. Until everyone else is out of there I put them
