Account Registration

I didn't receive a confirmation email.

If you used a Hotmail, Outlook, or Live email address:

  • As of December 2016, JellyRO is no longer accepting Microsoft emails.
  • Register again with a different email address, such as Gmail or Yahoo.
  • If your favorite username is tied up in an unconfirmed account, send an email to [email protected] from the email address you used to register the account.

If you used a different email address and still did not get a confirmation:

If you're not having any luck, you're not alone:

  • As of 2019, our email reputation score was bad enough that our emails were rarely getting through to Gmail or anywhere else. Our system is sending out these emails as requested, but there is a high chance your email provider is blocking it.
  • Currently, the best way to get your account verified quickly is to send an email to [email protected] from the email address you used to register the account. We will manually confirm your account, usually within 24 hours.

Note: Only game accounts currently require confirmation, but we also recommend not using hotmail, etc. when you register a Forum account in case you forget your password.

Download and Install

See also Start-Up Guide

Installer is corrupt.

Unfortunately, you will need to download the installer again.

If you are not confident in your own internet connection, we suggest that you try one of the following:

  • Use a download manager to download the file again. This software will allow you to resume broken downloads.
  • Download the torrent. You will need a torrent program. Here's how to get started.
  • Head outside to your local hotspot (library, cafe, etc) and download the installer again using a connection other than your own.
  • Ask a friend with a faster connection speed to download it for you. Remember to return his/her USB drive!

There are no torrent seeders.

Be patient, or give a shout out on Forums, Discord, Facebook, or Twitter.

"Files are missing for installation/Setup needs next disk."

Place all installation parts in the same location, otherwise you won't be able to install the client.

Patching

Please turn off your antivirus and run your jROPatch.exe as Admin.

You will need to run this periodically in order to be entirely up to date.

Nothing comes up on screen.

  • This is an error that occurs on Vista machines. Continue clicking until it works.
  • Right Clicking and Run as Admin may also help.

When it's done patching, and you've opened the game client proper: Open your Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) to close the other existing jROpatch.exe's. To avoid frustration at each launch, replace shortcuts to jROpatch.exe with jRO.exe.

"Failed to retrieve Patch_Allow.txt"

  • Try again at a later time. There may be an issue affecting our webserver.
  • Make sure your internet connection is stable and not dropping packets. If you're using wifi, check your signal strength.
  • Open patch_allow.txt and change deny to allow. Set file to Read Only.
  • Delete patch_allow.txt, patch.inf, patchRE.inf, and jro.inf, then try patching again.

jROpatcher.exe "Failed to Communicate with Server."

  1. Download jdata.grf. Currently unavailable.
  2. Move it into your JellyRO folder.
  3. Run jROPatch.exe again.

"Failed to get 'xxx.rgz' or 'xxx.gpf'."

  • Make sure your clients are completely closed out before patching.
  • Wait a few minutes and then try again.
  • If all else fails, we can send you an up-to-date jdata.grf file. Drag the file into your JellyRO folder to replace the old one.

Connection

"Failed to connect to server/Rejected from server."

  • Wait several minutes before trying to log in again. Multiple wrong login attempts will usually temporarily lock the account.
  • Check on Forums, Discord, Facebook, or Twitter to see if there are any major updates you need to patch for or if the server itself is down/having issues.

Client

I'm getting an error...

"jRO.exe has stopped working"

Since we updated our color palettes and hairstyles, this most commonly happens to returning players after they login but before they can select a character.

  1. Login the website/cp with the affected account.
  2. Go to "My Account".
  3. Click a character name.
  4. Click "Reset Look" above the character info.
  5. Go back and repeat steps 3 and 4 until the problem is fixed.
"Audio System Init Failed."
  1. Run jROSetup.exe and change the sound settings until they work.
  2. Make sure your sound drivers are updated/installed correctly.
"Cannot init d3d OR grf file has a problem."
  • Start jROSetup.exe and change your resolution, and/or disable fullscreen.
  • If the resolution list box is empty, it may mean your video card drivers are missing. You will then need to re-install them. Here's how to get started.
"Cannot find ___________."

These errors begin with Cannot find File, SPR, ResourceError or CPaletteRes. It means that you are missing sprite or palette files.

  • Make sure all clients are closed while patching.
  • Make sure your JellyRO files are not mixed with another server.
  • Try running jROPatcher.exe as Admin and temporarily disabling antivirus.
  • If the missing sprite is a recent update, we can send you an up-to-date jdata.grf file.
  • If all else fails, you may be missing more than just a few files, and we recommend reinstalling the client.
"AI.lua error."

My game client won't open.

No error messages. Either nothing happens, or the window closes immediately after opening.

  • Check if jRO.exe is running in Task Manager.

The process is not running in Task Manager:

  • Check if jRO.exe has been quarantined by your antivirus.
  • Right Click jRO.exe > Troubleshoot compatibility...
  1. Try recommended settings first, and then Troubleshoot program if that doesn't work.
  2. If you have no luck with the Troubleshooter, Right Click jRO.exe > Properties > Compatibility tab > try various settings.
  • Data Execution Prevention (DEP) might be shutting down the program before it even starts. Disable it.

The process is running or the above solutions did not work:

  • Always end the jRO.exe process before changing settings.
  • Open jROSetup.exe and click the REG icon in the bottom left corner...
  1. Select your Graphics Device and Resolution. (You may have to try different Graphics Devices until one works.)
  2. Make sure Resolution ends in x16 (for example, 800x600x16).
  3. Make sure Play in Full Screen is unchecked.
  4. Apply changes.
  • If your options for Graphics Device and Resolution are blank...
  1. Close Setup and run it again with Right Click jROSetup.exe and Run as Administrator.
  2. If options are still blank, check "Play in Full Screen" and Apply.
  3. See if options appear in the drop down menus now and try to Apply options with Full Screen unchecked.
  4. If this doesn't work, you may need to update your graphics driver.
  • If you tried everything and nothing seems to work...
  1. Disable the sound (Sound Mode: No Sound) and try again.
  2. Update your sound driver if this solution works.

jROSetup will not run or apply changes.

  • If it will not run at all, Right Click jRO.exe > Troubleshoot compatibility...
  1. Try recommended settings first, and then Troubleshoot program if that doesn't work.
  2. If you have no luck with the Troubleshooter, Right Click jRO.exe > Properties > Compatibility tab > try various settings.
  • Right Click jROSetup.exe and Run as Administrator. This may be required for your settings to be properly saved in the registry.
  • Windows 10 will sometimes revert your REG settings to the LUA settings. To prevent this, make changes to Graphics and Sound in LUA first, Apply, and then make REG settings match LUA.
  • If all else fails, try changing settings manually...
  1. Open JellyRO > savedata > OptionInfo.lua with notepad.
  2. Make the following changes, then save and close:
    OptionInfoList["ISFULLSCREENMODE"] = 0
    OptionInfoList["WIDTH"] = 800
    OptionInfoList["HEIGHT"] = 600
    OptionInfoList["BITPERPIXEL"] = 16
    OptionInfoList["DEVICECNT"] = 0
    • WIDTH and HEIGHT can be any resolution your monitor supports.
    • DEVICECNT is the number of the option in the list of Graphics Devices. If the number is not 0, don't change it. If it is 0, you may be able to try 1-3. The number of options in the list may vary between users.

My screen is stuck in Full Screen.

  1. Open jROSetup.exe in your RO folder.
  2. Click on the ROExt tab.
  3. Uncheck Lock Window.
  4. Apply your settings by clicking OK.

My screen is tiny.

You see a tiny bar of a window that can't be resized and crashes when you try to close it. This is a Windows 7 problem that sometimes occurs when you first install jRO.

  1. Open jROSetup.exe in your RO folder, in Administrator Mode.
  2. Click the REG icon in the bottom left.
  3. (Optional) Change settings as desired.
  4. Apply your settings by clicking OK.

My screenshots look funny.

Open jROSetup.exe and change the resolution to one that is not "widescreen" (16:9 aspect ratio).

  • Optimal resolutions for RO are 4:3 aspect ratio such as 800x600, 1024x768, or 1280x960.
  • If changing the resolution doesn't help, you may need to update your graphics driver.

Lag and Disconnection

I'm lagging really badly.

  • Check to make sure your internet connection is working properly.
  • Check to make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements for the game.
  • Check your time to make sure it's not 10am CST server time, as the lag that results at that time is due solely to our ISP. Come back and play later.

I can't dual/multi client.

If your second screen freezes when you dual client:

  • Turn off User Account Control if using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
  • Disable fullscreen in the setup.exe in the RO folder.
  • Make sure your computer is able to support multiple clients.

My character keeps crashing/Gravity Handler Error.

Make sure you've patched.
