The following guide was created by PrwynStar on December 2007

Well, this is gonna be like a very rough introduction to Ragnarok for beginners. (Btw, I'm a beginner myself, so feel free to post or correct me, haha.)

How to Begin
1. Press Alt+Q and Alt+E (your equip page and inventory, respectively).
2. Drag your dagger and cotton coat into your inventory.
3. (optional) Close the two windows by pressing Alt+Q and Alt+E again.
4. Double click on the sprite with the name Novice Shop (should be a few boxes up and left of you).
5. Sell your dagger and coat.
6. Double click on the sprite again, and this time buy all of the following:

- Tattered Novice Ninja Suit
- Novice False Eggshell
- Novice Guard
- Somber Novice Hood
- Novice Main-Gauche
- Novice Slippers
(Note: Because of these items, you will gain extra 1,100 hp, 80 sp, and a few other stats that will disappear when you take them off. When you choose your class, your armor will automatically come off, resulting in you losing all these bonuses.)

7. Now lvl your character to job level ten. Mind you, not normal level 10!
8. Then go to the building southwest of the fountain in Prontera.
9. Click on the sprite called "Job Employment", and choose your job (you'll get a free weapon, based on the job you chose).
10.Go out into the world, and make it your own!

Classes
Swordsmen: They get a pretty large range of armor and weapons. They hit hard, and are good in front-line melee. They can tank relatively easily, with Lvl 10 Magnum Break.
Mages: They have really cool, flashy attacks that burst onto the screen. Also, they can do devastating damage. However, they have to fight from a distance, because their spell would get cancelled if they get hit.
Archers: No flashy moves, just a long distance fighter. The arrows place solid hits, but arrow cost can pile up after a while.
Merchants: They can hold up their own in combat, but prefer making money by buying and selling items. The skill Discount allows them to buy items from NPC shops at 75% the normal price at Lvl 10. The skill Overcharge allows them to sell items to NPC shops at 125% the normal price at Lvl 10. Also, they are the only class able to open shop of their own.
Thieves: They don't rely on a large amount of equipment and weapons to fight, and therefore are good for starting players. Lots of fun, and can become invisible.
Acolyte: My personal opinion is that this is the coolest class. They have awesome-looking skills, but they are very hard to train. Acolytes usually act as the support person in a party, and don't have particularly powerful attacks of their own (until they get to their second job). A sad fact: they are the most ksed class in the game, but the most needed. Join if you want to be nice and go around healing ppl ^.^.
Twae Kwon Do Boys/Girls, Gunslingers, Ninjas, and Super Novices: Well, I personally am not interested in these classes since they don't really fit into the whole medieval time scheme, haha ..... so yea, soz but I don't know anything about them.

Some Random Facts
- In the building where you chose your job, there are a few other sprites that you might find useful.
Rental: When you get your second job, there's a specified "pet", or companion, that you may buy.
Special Skill Service: Pay this dude 1k and you'll get all the skills that you need to complete quests for.
Mesmerizer: Pay this dude 1k and you can reset all of your stat OR skill points.
- Kafra is somewhere that you can store your stuff at, up to 300 items. Each time you access your storage, it costs some money (within 100z). And when i say 300 items, it means that a stack of something only counts as 1 item.
- Also use Kafras to save your respawn point. Then when you die, you'll appear there.
- Warp Girl: She teleports you to wherever you like. Cities, dungeons, PVP maps, and others. I think it's free.
- General Hospital Doc: He'll give you full HP for 1z, and full HP + full SP for 1kz ............ go figure.
- Almost every city should have a shop with a Weapons Dealer and an Armor Dealer, and another shop with a Tool Dealer. You get weapons from the Weapons Dealer, armor (and some kinds of weapons) from the Armor Dealer. The Tool Dealer sells potions, things to teleport you back to your saved spot (butterfly wings), and magnifiers (you need them to identify weapon and armor drops from monsters), among a few.
- Some people prefer to keep leveling their normal level even after job lvl 10. The recommended ratio is 35/10. They do this because of the free hp and sp bonuses from the novice armor. This is especially recommended for archers and acolytes.
- You can already get your second job at jlvl 40, but a lot of people prefer going until jlvl 50, for those extra 10 skill points. Cus jlvl 50 is the max for the first job.
