Talk:Guides

Delete Page

Guides here need to be reviewed and deleted if necessary. Further, the ones that stay need to be integrated into Category:Player Guides if it doesn't already exist there.

If you want guides to be sorted by classes also, then Category pages need to be made for each class and added to the guide.

Page Organization

Hoi, Kaeri and I were discussing organizing this page like so (please respond with your thoughts either here or in a private message through IRC):

For the jobs, we were thinking each job should have its own unique landing page. That page could then list all of the original guides pertaining to that job. Players who like to use the search function can search specifically for a job and just go to the job's page for info. We can copy the guides over and mark them with "Last Updated: x/y/z" dates and such, but the main article can be kept updated as a collaborative effort for current gameplay.

For this page, the job guide section would just be changed to a list/table of links to each job's page.
One perk I'd look forward to is that we could make each job page pretty with original art, so that could make room for another small art contest or for art donations. Until then, we can use official art. I like pictures! I'll explore template options for this when I get home tonight.

P.S. - Can we decide whether it's preferable to use European DD/MM/YYYY, American MM/DD/YYYY, or International YYYY/MM/DD format for dates? I don't know about anyone else, but I'm very picky about consistency. British variations of English vs. American English, too, if we start getting into edit wars over how we should spell "armor/armour" and such.

Adellie Here. 7 Dec 2012:

I'll stay in IRC more often.

I don't mind at all if you change the organization or split it up into a few different pages. I just started gathering guides here because the link was in red on the front page, and it seemed doable. :p (Personally, i do like long pages with plenty of infos though.)

However, I'm not sure a format like -- 01/01/2010 -- is a good idea. You'd have to check the guides every so often; and if the guide appears on more than one page, you'd have to edit each page. I'd rather just do something like -- by Soandso (2010-2011).

Also, last i checked, i couldn't upload images. Is it just me?

  • Aw snap, I'll look into images (unless we're not supposed to add any, I'll test making broken image links and see if it gives the option to add an image). As for dates, I was thinking perhaps like, "Jan 2012" - that circumvents that date format issue entirely while giving a close enough time period to compare to patches that may have made some guides obsolete. That, or we can leave dates out entirely and allow the guides to be updated by wiki editors. I'm going to start working on a quick job page header template and edit this page to show specifically what I mean, though; if we generally don't like it, then we can just revert. --Aena (talk) 02:07, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
    • I tried here http://www.jellyro.com/wiki/index.php/Lord_Knight Didn't work ; ; Anyway, that's what I was thinking for another page. If you want to help format that page (or have suggestions for adjusting the header section - its page is "Template:Job_Header"), feel free. I'm out of time tonight and will need to think it over more later. I'll add a comment on that page's discussion page in a moment.--Aena (talk) 06:29, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

Re guides. I really want to to grey out obsolete guides but i don't have the authority or knowledge to say which ones are still relevant so ¯\(°_o)/¯.

Also, I have some thoughts about class pages, but i'd rather share ideas quickly ingame or over irc rather than making back-and-forth posts in the discussion page. --Adellie (talk) 09:18, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the guidance. Modified the class guides section to look more like the 'draft'. There's 2 versions (see page history).

  • First edit: 3 column, sorted alphabetically. Looks better.
  • Second edit: 2 column, sorted by base class. Uglier, slightly easier to browse.

please advise --Adellie (talk) 05:38, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

  • I've been taking a break since images still don't seem to work and because I've been busy with a few things. We can go with this for now, but I'd like to go for three columns, alphabetical, and reducing the table width once we move individual guides to their respective job pages and remove them from the table. I think it will look better and feel cleaner in the end, but you are very welcome to disagree. :) On the "draft," I went alphabetically with the transcendent job names rather than non-trans since it felt more appropriate when considering the popularity of each job (and if organized by job, Bard/Minstrel and Dancer/Gypsy being split jobs with different playstyles and guides hurt my OCD like whatthedeuce). I'm probably totally weird for getting picky about it, but I much prefer having Taekwon Master as that last oddball item rather than the very staple and traditional Wizard. --Aena (talk) 08:26, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
