The following guide was created by Avarie on July 2011
I just wanted to clear up some misconceptions most new players seem to have about this server. Feel free to delete/move accordingly.

1. You don't need IC.

  • Instant cast (Obtained through IC gears) is great. If you can get it or get close to it you should, but you do not need IC to level, farm, or any pvm related endevors. The trick is to run far enough ahead of your mob that you have time to cast. Once you get the feeling of it, it's not really so bad.
  • This is not counting insanely slow cast times, which some skills will have, you still want to get 150 dex in the end, but a couple seconds cast time is not going to hurt anything.
  • This of course only applies to casting classes, such as wizard or priest.

2. You don't need a Kaho

  • A kaho is one of the more costly hats, and will take you quite a while to save up for. A kaho should be the first big gear you should work for, that or better pvm gears like a deviling garment, but just because you don't have one, it doesn't mean you can't play.
  • Gravity actually has some pretty useful hats implemented, do a little bit of research and find a useful hat to wear. Click this to see some hats.

3. You don't need an SQI

  • SQIs are endgame and very expensive. What I mean by endgame is, once you've obtained all of your basic gear, then its time to work for an SQI.
  • You should not feel ashamed that you don't have an SQI.
  • You do not need an SQI to reach 99, I do not have one and I'm almost a 99 high priest.
  • You do not even need them to woe! We have SQIless, also known as restricted, woe where MVP Cards/SQIs are disabled.

4. Basic gear is not hard to obtain.

  • You will face some hardships in the beginning with just NPC gear, but if you keep looting, and keep working at it, you will start to be able to obtain the basic gear. (Click to see Beginner Weapons)
  • Great starter weapons are provided if you do the job change quest to turn into your first job. Despite what many may think, the first job quests are insanely easy and only take about 10-15minutes to do.
  • Many guilds will loan starter gear to new players. You need to earn their trust first, and you need to be consistent and responsive with them.

My best advice I can give to you new players is join a social guild. Please refer to the guild index. My guild has helped me a lot, hopefully your guild will do the same for you. Remember to read and obey all the Rules!
