Front Page Discussion

The current front page is up for changes. Please discuss suggestions below. Let me know if you would like to play with the formatting directly.

  • Adellie (talk) 08:24, 17 September 2013 (UTC): Is the main page layout the way it will be for a while, or is it still in the process of being designed? (Once it looks the way its supposed to, I can attempt declog some of it with templates, so that anyone can easily edit the What's Happening section.)
    • Ai : Adellie, do you happen to know how to make a template that rotates featured articles?
    • Adellie (talk) 22:29, 16 October 2013 (UTC): You can't do have articles auto-rotating without fiddling with mediawiki outside the wiki options. I imagined that the simplest way to do it would be to create separate pages for each news article. and slot them in one per line on the front page.
  • Aena (talk) 09:48, 27 September 2013 (UTC): Can we customize the skin a little more? I like how this one has modified it with an appropriate background and stuff: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Minecraft_Wiki I'd also like if the front page was split up into more sections like that and Wikipedia (might just be me?), but I don't know if we have enough pages for that. ._.
    • Ai : I will try to check with Alexiel. The front page layout and contents may be changed entirely if anyone has specific ideas. I would personally like to have a "What's New" section to replace the "Welcome . . ." section. It would be nice to highlight pages that involve the most recent server update(s). The "Welcome . . ." section can be graduated out of and above the table in the front page to add visual interest. We might also benefit from a featured article or featured guide rotation if someone knows how to do that. Social Networking options in the Server Information article could be moved or added to the front page. Again, I am fairly weak in my wiki formatting abilities, so I hope one of you can help with this.
    • Adellie (talk) 22:29, 16 October 2013 (UTC): I wish i had read this earlier. Support for both things. Regarding skinning, i've never done one for mediawiki but it looks pretty straightforward. (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Skinning/Tutorial) I just wish i had seen this earlier... even if Alexiel gives us a go on a custom skin, an out-of-wiki collab will probably not get done before the wiki release.

Sidebar Discussion

  • Adellie (talk) 07:03, 19 September 2013 (UTC): If possible, I would really like the sidebar links changed, because I had hell navigating it at first... not anymore since i'm always using the wiki, but i still think it would be beneficial for the readers. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but I got frustrated with the "Home" and "Website" links which are kind of ambiguous. @@; I would prefer "Wiki Home", "Back to Website" and "Back to Forums". Medium-strong preference.
  • Aena (talk) 09:35, 27 September 2013 (UTC): This was sorta disappointing for me as well. Are the collapse-able items in the sidebar collapsed or expanded by default? I had some that were collapsed and don't know if I did that myself or what. If they're open by default then nevermind. >_>;
    • Ai : I will look into this.
    • Adellie (talk) 22:38, 16 October 2013 (UTC): My guess is that they were collapsed by default. Cause i remember i had a moment of where-did-all-the-links-go! when MediaWiki:Sidebar was editted last /heh

Mixing and Creation

Adellie (talk) 10:46, 17 October 2013 (UTC):

For now, I have removed everything but job-creations and cooking. So right now the conditions are:

  • Creates one or more brand new items
  • Removes items/ingredients from your inventory
  • DOES NOT require an npc

(Technically Pet Eggs should be listed here too then.)

Originally, Dyestuff and Juice was listed. These do require npcs, but if we put those two in, then I feel like we should list Headgears Quests, Mixture/Countagt Quest, Potion Creation (Non-Alchemist), Socket Enchant, SQIs, Endless Mids, and other turn-in quests as well.... all the way to novice blues and pancakes

Input please:

  • What should or should not be listed on that page?
  • Can we just rearrange "Items" and put the creatable items there?
